Press Release 11/22/2013

The Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department received a phone call from the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office, on 11/21/2013, of the death of a 7 year old Hot Spring County child, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, in Little Rock.  Sheriff’s Detectives were advised that the child had collapsed at St. Vincent Hospital and was transported via ambulance to A.C.H., where he was pronounced deceased.  Further information was obtained that the child had been taken to Children’s Hospital on 11/20/2013 for abdominal pains.  It was found that a foreign object was located in his intestinal tract.  The child was released on the 20th waiting for the object to pass.  Prior to 11/20 the child had been in a physical altercation with an 8 year old child.  The Arkansas State Crime Lab Medical Examiner’s initial report shows that there is no physical evidence that the outcome was related to the incident.  Both children’s parents confirmed that this was an isolated incident between the children and no prior “bullying” had occurred.

11/22/13, Detectives were notified of social media rumors, stating that the child’s death was related to ongoing harassment/bullying.  The Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department, the Arkansas State Crime Lab Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office initially believe that there was no foul play involved in this child’s tragic death.  The Sheriff’s Department would like to express our condolences to the family and requests that everyone respect these families and their community during their time of grief.  Please refer any and all questions, rumors, or inquiries to the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department at 501-332-3671 Monday through Friday 8 am to 4 pm.

Upon the family’s request any condolences; ie., cards, flowers, etc (nonmonetary) may be sent to the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department, at 215 E. Highland Ste. 119 Malvern, AR 72104. These will be promptly delivered to the child’s family.  Upon both children’s parent’s request, no further information will be released on this case.
